Manufacturing from scratch
Create the future of Kawata

知財開発 / 2018年入社

Something that doesn't exist in the world yet.
Thinking about experiments and equipment on your own

The Intellectual Property Development Department is a department that creates things that do not yet exist in the world. We are developing new products for Kawata. During development, it is necessary to conduct experiments to examine basic elements, and we create our own equipment for these experiments. Experimental methods, measurement methods, measurement standards, and judgment standards are also often unprecedented. We may apply the technology and wisdom that Kawata has cultivated, but we are manufacturing from scratch, thinking about what to use and how to make it. Some experimental data, experimental equipment, and experimental materials are confidential, and information may only be disclosed to a limited number of members within the company or even within the department. Once a year, we have an opportunity to announce our development within the company, and there are times when a machine is born that will be commercialized as a new product. Some have It's a department with a lot of secrets even within Kawata, but I think it's a department that creates the future of Kawata. I am working hard on research, thinking that what kind of technology and products would allow Kawata to contribute more to society.

Pile up small "done".
Evolving by combining technology and ideas

The work in my department does not produce immediate results. As we carry out experiments and development every day, it is our job to persevere and tenaciously add things that weren't there yesterday, steadily accumulating small achievements step by step, thinking that we were able to overcome this issue and improve this method. It's the finer points. I try to keep more experimental data than I need. For example, when taking a picture of the machine after the experiment, take it from an oblique angle that is not particularly necessary. When I don't see any results after one month or three months, when I look at the photos from an oblique angle to change my perspective, I sometimes notice something new. It is encouraging to know that nothing is wasted and that everything has potential. It's a job to create something that doesn't exist, so it's not good to have a person who is good at knowledge and technology. I believe that without young people, the manufacturing of the next generation will not be possible. Technology continues to evolve, even for parts and assembly. In our generation, we thought that this was the only way, but from the perspective of the younger generation, there are things that can be improved, which will lead to the evolution of Kawata. I would like to combine technology and ideas to create value unique to Kawata.

My "solution" episode

A project I've been working on for a long time that I can't tell anyone about. I couldn't produce any results for half a year after joining the company, but I was able to finish it until it was mechanized by borrowing the technology and wisdom that Kawata had cultivated, and I was able to actually deliver the machine for the customer's experiment. This project does not end with the delivery, and we are continuing to move forward with the customer's research team to the next step. I can't publish it, but I'm happy to be able to contribute to the company and customers with results.

The reason why I chose Kawata

My previous job was designing and assembling machines at a small manufacturing company, but when I wanted to try a broader range of manufacturing, I found a job opening at Kawata. Kawata is a company that supports the manufacture of a wide variety of plastic products that are all around us. I was wondering if I could be involved in the design of Dryer and Conveying Machine, so when I looked at the details, I found that they were recruiting for the Intellectual Property Development Department, which will "create things that don't exist in the world." I wanted to take on the challenge of creating things outside of the box, so I applied for the position because I felt it would be a perfect fit.
All of Kawata's employees have a high level of knowledge, and most of them are calm. If you ask a question about Conveying or powder technology, you'll get an answer no matter who you ask. I was surprised because up until my previous job, I had experienced a workplace where there was a strong craftsmanship, where in many cases only the people working on the machines knew about machines. It's easy to work with a flexible company culture.

What I want to challenge from now on

I would like to continue to improve my personal skills in order to develop various machines. I am good at designing and assembling machines and chemistry, but I would like to study the field of electricity because it is not as good as the control section. I think that if you have knowledge of electricity, you will be able to see things differently, and you will be able to get closer to the shape you want to realize more quickly.
As the Intellectual Property Development Department, our goal is to bring out hit products unique to Kawata that are useful to our customers. For hit products, it is important not only to have specs, but also to determine the timing of launch. In preparation for that time, I would like to develop as many new products and new technologies as possible and support Kawata's progress.
